Originally presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963, the Mercedes 280SL “Pagoda” is the formidable successor to the 190SL series. Its nickname originates from the meticulously designed concave arched hardtop that grants an improved all-round view and optimizes the passenger space.

At that time, Mercedes Benz took into account the customer wishes for increased comfort and wider interior space; they combined these together with the competitive market requirements pushing for greater power engines as well as active and passive safety elements. With the introduction of a hardened passenger cell and strategic frontal and read crumple zones, impact-absorbing steering column, and an edgeless interior, Mercedes was set to redefine safety.

The car’s 2.8L 6-cylinder multi-point fuel injection engines provide the capability to effortlessly reach a top speed of 200Km/h making this a perfect two-seater luxury sports touring convertible. This elegant piece of motoring retains its original Dark Blue and it is equipped with natural-colored leather seats, fitted with a modern air conditioner compressor, hard and soft top, Becker Grand Prix radio, and a Hirschmann Automatic Antenna.

This 280SL underwent a throughout frame-off restoration including a complete overhaul of the engine. The front and rear axle as well as the gearbox and steering have been dismantled, repaired and all their parts detailed. The body has been completely repainted in the correct color and polished. The condition is impeccable.
